Biography
Raphaëlle Kerbrat is a visual artist and doctoral candidate in the SACRe/PSL PhD programme. At the Paris École des Arts Décoratifs, Kerbrat completed a PhD thesis entitled ‘Le poids des données, paradoxes matériels et sensibles du numérique’ (‘The weight of data, material and sensitive paradoxes of digital technology’), which she defended at the Centre Pompidou in 2023. In her work, Kerbrat explores the material conditions and issues associated with digital technologies through the plastic manipulation of its devices. The artefacts she develops raise the paradoxes of digital ‘immateriality’ in relation to the physical footprint of the infrastructures that support it. Weaving a dialogue between art, sciences and technologies, Kerbrat strives to make the imperceptible visible, by means of devices that reveal the materialities of the digital world in a sensitive and poetic way.
