Artist and professor-researcher – FR
Samuel Bianchini lives and works in Paris. His work has regularly been exhibited in France and abroad: Stuk Art Center (Leuven), Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), Deutsches Hygiene-Museum (Dresden), Athens’National Museum of Contemporary Art, Jeu de Paume (Paris), Laboratoria (Moscow), Thessaloniki Biennale, Carthage’s Rencontres Chorégraphiques, Geneva’s Centre pour l’image contemporaine, Rennes Biennale, La Ménagerie de verre (Paris), Seoul’s space_imA and Duck-Won Gallery, Paris’Nuit Blanche, Yucatán Atheneum Contemporary Art Museum in Mexico, Paris’Cité des sciences et de l’industrie, Karlsruhe’s Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie (ZKM), Paris’Museum of Modern Art, La Villa Arson (Nice), etc. Bianchini’s work questions the negative impact of technologies on our modes of representation, our new forms of aesthetic experiences and our socio-political organisations. Bianchini conducts his research in collaboration with scientists and laboratories specialised in engineering: Limsi-CNRS (Laboratory for Mechanics and Engineering Sciences, Orsay), Orange Labs, IEMN (Institute of Electronics, Microelectronics and Nanotechnology, Lille-Valenciennes), IETR (Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications of Rennes), Liris (Laboratory of Informatics in Image and Information Systems, Lyon), LIFL (Laboratory of Fundamental Informatics of Lille), CEA (French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission, Saclay). The theoretical work Bianchini has undertaken is closely connected to his artistic practice and gives way to frequent publications: Éditions du Centre Pompidou, Éditions Jean-Michel Place, MIT Press, Analogues, Burozoïque, Hermes, Les presses du réel, etc. Bianchini has directed several publications, including Recherche & Création. Bianchini defended his PhD Thesis at the Palais de Tokyo with a solo show. He is now a professor-researcher (lecturer in Art and Art Sciences) at the Université de Valenciennes (laboratoire Calhiste) and at the EnsadLab, Paris’École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs’research laboratory, where he manages the research programme on interactive devices.
